Annual Fire Drill at Jan Seva: Strengthening Safety and Preparedness

At Jan Seva, safety is a top priority, and every year, a Fire Drill is organized for both staff and children to ensure everyone is well-prepared in case of an emergency. This year, the Fire Drill took place on November 20, 2024 (Wednesday), with an impressive turnout of 40 staff members and 175 children participating.

The drill was conducted by the personnel from Responders, a fire consultancy team responsible for maintaining the fire instruments, tanks, and pumps in the building. Mr. Sumon Chatterjee and Mr. Amarendra Banerjee, who is also associated with the Kolkata Police Traffic Department, led the session, guiding everyone through the necessary steps for a quick and effective evacuation.

Held every six months, this fire drill serves to refresh the staff on their responsibilities during a fire emergency. The building was successfully evacuated within 2 minutes and 57 seconds, a marked improvement from previous drills, demonstrating how the practice has enhanced efficiency over time.

Both male and female staff are trained to operate fire extinguishers and shut off the main electrical supply during an emergency. This hands-on training not only boosts confidence but also ensures that staff members are fully equipped to handle any fire-related situation.

By conducting such drills, Jan Seva ensures the safety of all staff and children, creating a secure environment where everyone can work and learn with peace of mind. The fire drill strengthens the team’s trust in their ability to act swiftly and responsibly during a crisis.
