Pathways To Children Visit Our Children At Jan Seva


‘Pathways to Children’ headed by Mrs.Grace Strangis and her team of Board Members, two dentists, two photographers, students of the University of Minnesota and Seminarians had visited JAN SEVA from3rd January to 9th January,2020.The guests were all welcomed traditionally, with a lamp, vermilion and sandal wood powder and seasonal marigold flowers. It was a week filled with constructive activities together with entertainment in the form of song and music by the Seminarians for the tiny tots and the Staff of JAN SEVA, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Dr. Sit Wong and Dr. Elise Sarvas, both dentists from USA, accompanied by two Indian dentists – Dr. Agarwal and Dr.Pain- held dental clinics from 3rd January to 4th January,2020 from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm, where all children attending the ‘EARLY CHILD CARE EDUCATION CENTRE’ (ECCEC) of JAN SEVA and the ‘UDAAN SPECIAL NEEDS SECTION’, respectively, were provided routine checkup of their teeth and diagnosis provided. Awareness programs were organized by the‘COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMME’ team in JAN SEVA together with the team of visiting dentists for the parents,regarding dental care and maintenance of their child’s teeth, in the best possible way. Dental kits and blankets were handed over to the parents and children.

All visitors were taken for a guided tour within ‘JAN SEVA’ and were introduced to the Coordinators of the various programs that are undertaken here, namely, the Special needs section, Early Child Care Education program, Vocational Training and Community Health program.

On the 9th of January, the Seminarians visited JAN SEVA, who visited the classrooms and interacted with the special children of ‘UDAAN’ by helping them with their various activities in class such as coloring books, etc which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The Seminarians also played outdoor ball games on the lawns that made the children laugh and have plenty of fun and frolic! To top it all,there was a wonderful musical program by the visitors, which included popular songs for the children which they enacted, accompanied by the strumming of guitars and beating of the drum.

Mrs. Sarita Dhir, SICW Board member and Administrator of the Special Needs section in JAN SEVA, unfolded the story of ‘UDAAN’ to the Seminarians- about its inception, various objectives , goals and achievements, which the visitors listened to attentively.

In conclusion, it was a productive week where new ideas were exchanged. A new dental care program was taught to the parents for the well being of their children. All programs which are carried on in ‘JAN SEVA’ were appreciated by our visitors. They also loved our luscious green kitchen garden,which fed so many children of the community,throughout the year. The visitors all agreed that ‘JAN SEVA’ is a wonderful place for the development of the community and a beautiful place worth visiting.
