Awareness Programme On Worm Infestation Among Children


Worm infection is a major problem concerning majority of the population of children whether from urban, rural or semi-urban areas. Children as active they are, roaming around in various areas not bothered whether the areas they are playing in are infested with worms or not. The children from ECCE also suffer from worm infections as reported by the mothers. So an awareness programme was held in Jan Seva Hall room where the parents of the Early childhood care and education centre (ECCE) were asked to attend the programme for sharing the knowledge regarding worm infestation.

The CHP team prepared Flip charts as their IEC containing information regarding worm infestation. The Team discussed topics like;

  • What are worms infestation

  • Causes of worm infestation

  • How one get infected by worms

  • Signs and symptoms of worm infestation

  • Effects of worm infestation

  • Treatment of worm infestation

  • Prevention from worm infestation

During the discussion parents raised their queries regarding the topic and also shared their knowledge regarding the topics like the different home remedies they learnt that worked with worm infestation.

The CHP Team distributed leaflets to the parents for their further knowledge and queries to be answered. The team also asked questions to evaluate whether the parents gained the knowledge or not.

OBJECTIVE: IMPROVED KNOWLEDGE ON WORM INFESTATION TARGET: 134/100% REACHED: 126/93%

A short term evaluation after the programme was done. It was found that 90% of the parents know about worm infestation. 92%people know about the causes of worm infestation. 96% respondents know how they get infected by worms, 95% know about the signs and symptoms of worm infestation, 89% know about the effect of worm infestation, 99% know about the treatment of worm infestation, 93% know about the prevention methods. 95% were satisfied with the session.
