Jewellery Making at Jan Seva
Today Jan Seva has added a new feather to its cap by introducing Jewellery Making as a new subject for Vocational Training for Women!
The initiative has been taken by our very own, multi talented Dr. Janak Hartnett, who was assisted by Ms. Twisha Ganguly to buy the instruments and accessories required for this art. Dr. Hartnett made time for us, despite her busy schedule and taught many eager students - the first session and there will many more to follow, that is, once a week (every Thursday). The students were keen learners and learnt the art easily and deftly managed to create 25 pairs of beautiful ear-rings, achieving a major milestone! Starting simple we will follow it up with different designs, both with Indian and Western, with different types of beads teaching them to make Long necklaces, wrist bands, earrings and tops in the weeks and months ahead.
We would sincerely like to thank Grace and Pathways to Children for donating us innumerable multi-sized, multi-coloured and multi-shaped beads which are being well utilised in learning a creative skill. We would also like to thank SICW and Amicale for providing us the opportunity and platform, respectively, to learn and implement this new art of jewellery making, to the fullest!
We hope this activity will uplift the spirit of the Vocational Training Program for Women and more energetic students will add on to it in the near future.
